Amaro Averna has an important history behind it, at the same time that Napoleon was crowned emperor, Salvatore Averna was born. 57 years later, Averna received a gift from a Capuchin monk in Caltanissetta, as a token of gratitude for work carried out, of a recipe for a digestive liqueur that the brothers used to distil from herbs in the surrounding area.
The monk certainly could not have imagined that this simple gesture of courtesy would be the great fortune of Averna, which about ten years later began marketing this liqueur as Amaro Averna.
