An introductory course in spirits, ideal for those looking to start a career in the sector or for anyone with an interest in spirits.
Designed for beginners, this qualification provides a practical introduction to the world of spirits. You will explore the main types and styles of spirits through sight, smell and taste, developing an understanding of the key factors that influence the flavours and aromas of these beverages. Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate and a WSET lapel pin.

By the end of the course, you will be able to taste and describe spirits using a globally recognised approach. You will also be able to identify key spirit styles and understand the raw materials and production methods that define them.

The Level 1 Award in Spirits examination consists of 30 multiple-choice questions to be completed within 45 minutes.
To achieve a pass, candidates must answer at least 70% of the questions correctly.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
However, candidates must be of legal drinking age in Portugal in order to participate in any tasting activities included in the course.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
BY THE CANDIDATE'S INITIATIVE
Cancellation before the end of the registration period
All cancellation requests must be submitted by email to info@southside-bartending.com no later than 5 business days before the registration deadline established for each course.
Southside Bartending will confirm receipt and acceptance of the cancellation request by email within 48 hours. Refunds will only be issued upon confirmation of the cancellation acceptance.
An administrative fee of €50, as well as the cost of any study materials and related shipping charges (if already dispatched), will be deducted from the refund amount.
Cancellation after the registration period has ended
Once the registration period has closed, candidates may no longer request the cancellation of their registration or a refund.
However, candidates may request to transfer their registration to a future course date by sending an email to info@southside-bartending.com.
If the request is made up to 6 days before the course start date, and once confirmation has been received by email, the candidate's registration will be placed on hold (the hold is valid for a period of 6 months). The candidate may then enrol in a future course by paying only a €50 administrative fee.
For cancellation requests made less than 6 business days before the course start date, no refund will be granted.
Student Notice: All transfers are subject to availability on alternative course and examination dates.
BY THE ORGANISATION'S INITIATIVE
Southside Bartending reserves the right to cancel a candidate's registration if any information provided in the application form is found to be inaccurate or misleading.
Southside Bartending also reserves the right to make changes to the course programme, venue, and schedule, as well as to cancel or postpone a course if the minimum number of participants is not reached by the registration deadline.
Where necessary, enrolled students may transfer their booking to another scheduled course of the same level at no additional cost, or request a full refund of the course fee. In all cases, Southside Bartending shall not be liable for any expenses, damages, or losses incurred by the participant.
